A Geographic Information System (GIS) is a tool where geographical data are concur, stored, manipulated, analyse, managed and presented – where users are allowed to create interactive queries, edit information in maps. GIS has many application in the field of engineering, telecommunications, transport/logistics, planning, and management.
Maps are the best way to get visualised the spatial information and they interpolate the location and extent of the feature, attributes (characteristics) of the feature and relationship of the feature to other features. All geographic features on the earth’s surface can be characterized and defined as one of three basic feature types.
GIS features
These are points, lines, and areas. This features can be made of any scale. Remember, as the scale of a map increases, the relative size of the features decrease. They speak about spatial relation and pattern and offers readers an insight in and overview of the distribution of particular process.
Different major problems like overpopulation, pollution, natural disaster, and climate change all bear geographical dimension. GIS provided insight to these problems and suggest ways that can be best address.
Today, GIS is a big industry where many people are engaged because of geographic queries and search database. In GIS, data can be presented in the map format – gives the true picture of the situation which allows decision maker to focus on real issue rather than understanding the data.
UIZ is working to develop their own GIS system with own server from where our clients get much information on their field of interest. We have a expatriate’s team of GIS with many happy clients from our service.
